Jasper

November 18, 2016 by

Jasper came to us when we needed him most and we came to Jasper when he needed us most. Jasper was a beautiful basset hound and springer spaniel mix. A most unique puppy. We adopted Jasper from a group of his five brothers and sisters. Unfortunately, when we adopted Jasper we quickly found out that he had Parvo. Parvo is a deadly infection and it took a strong approach by our veterinarian to save Jaspers life. His other litter mates were not so fortunate. Against all odds, Jasper was our miracle puppy, he survived. Over the next 15 years, Jasper filled our hearts with wonder, joy, and love. Jasper was a hilarious dog at times, always a hugger and a lover that would roll over on his back for belly pets from anyone and everyone who stopped to check out this unique oddity of a canine. All dogs and people that every met Jasper seemingly fell in love with him. I never saw a dog or a person that wasn’t intrigued in some way by Jasper. Even the grumpiest of people and the meanest of dogs just seemed to simply buddy up to Jasper like they had known him forever. He slobbered all over the best and the worst. Some of Jaspers best friends include Chloe (his surrogate mother) , Hunter (his early life lab mix friend) , Stymey (his oldest brother a 20 year old black cat) , and certainly his closest friend his younger brother Cosby (a chocolate lab mix). He helped to raise Cosby and teach him all of the tricks. Good and naughty!  Cosby was with Jasper everyday of Cosby’s life and Cosby will miss Jasper dearly in this life, but will play with him endlessly in the next. My wife and I know that we have been blessed  by simply getting to spend a large part of our lives with a wonderful character and spirit packaged in a unique body (the long haired, howling spotted yak dog) or a friend named Jasper. In his later years Jasper became just a bit stubborn, stinky, and loud. But what one does not realize, is how important all of those demands, smells, and sounds become in ones life. Our home is definitley too quiet right now, but we know your around. Although we miss our boy Jasper sooo much, we will celebrate his life as long as we are here to celebrate it. Jasper, we see your star in the Western sky and we just want you to know that your mommy, daddy, and your brothers will be together again with you soon enough. We love you and always will.

Your beloved pet is sick

The diagnosis and subsequent prognosis aren't good. Now is the time to contemplate advanced animal hospice care or putting your pet to sleep (euthanasia). But where do you turn for help? What are the next steps? How do you make this final period of your companion’s life as peaceful as possible? Read more...
